PRIVATE DESKTOP TEST
Install WinAI
Tell WinAI what you want done. It works with Codex to help you complete everyday tasks on your computer.
Ready to try it?
The page highlights the right download for this computer. Mac packages are signed and notarized by Apple; the Windows private test may need the certificate help below.
Install in two steps
- Download WinAI for your computer and open the downloaded installer.
- Approve the installation message. WinAI handles the rest.
ON WINDOWS, THE FIRST TIME
Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen with only a Don’t run button. The button you need is hidden:
- Select More info — the small link above the button.
- Select Run anyway, which appears underneath.
This screen appears because WinAI is signed with its own private test certificate rather than one bought from a certificate authority. It is not a virus warning and nothing was detected: Windows shows it for any installer it has not seen downloaded many times before. It stops appearing for WinAI on this computer once you have run it.
WinAI opens after installation, stays available from the Windows tray or Mac menu bar, remembers your chats and permission choice, and checks for signed updates.
QUESTIONS
WinAI FAQ
What is WinAI?
WinAI is a simple Windows and Mac chat that connects to Codex. You describe the result you want in everyday language, and WinAI helps get the work done.
What can it do?
You can ask for help with almost any kind of computer task, including files, settings, apps, troubleshooting, documents, and project work. What it can complete depends on the tools and access you choose.
Does it use my computer?
Yes. WinAI uses Codex and the tools available on your computer to work on the tasks you request. It does not receive permission to do unrelated work.
Is WinAI free?
The WinAI private test is free. Codex uses your OpenAI account, so any OpenAI plan, usage limits, or charges are separate from WinAI.
Do I need Codex?
Yes. WinAI checks for the official Codex runtime and helps you install or update it, then lets you connect your OpenAI account.
Will WinAI stay updated?
Yes. WinAI checks for signed updates when it opens and can also receive updates in the background.
Does Mac have the same access?
Yes, with Apple equivalents. macOS requires one-time approval for protected abilities such as Accessibility, Screen Recording, Automation, and Full Disk Access. WinAI opens the correct settings for you.
